terms.

the agreement between you and Decode for using the app and this site. version 1.1 · 16 September 2026.

plain English, and short on purpose. if a line here is unclear, ask us before you rely on it — support@trydecode.app.

who we are

Decode is a UK service that reads consumer money documents — buy-now-pay-later plans, credit agreements, loan and card terms — and explains what they say. “we”, “us” and “Decode” mean the operator of this service; the registered entity and address are shown in the app under settings → about.

what Decode does

you photograph or upload a document. we extract the figures and dates from it, put your plans in one place, and show you what each number is and where in the document it comes from. every figure we show points back to a line in your own document.

what Decode is not

the document is the authority

Decode reads documents with the help of an AI model and can get things wrong — a blurred photo, an unusual layout, a term written in a way we have not seen before. what binds you is your agreement with your provider, not our summary of it. before you act on a figure, check it against the clause we point to. if what we show does not match your document, tell us and we will correct it.

your account

you need to be 18 or over and resident in the UK. keep your login to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account. we can suspend an account that is being used to break these terms or the law.

free decodes and the subscription

your 14-day cancellation right

as a consumer you can cancel a new subscription within 14 days under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. if you ask us to start straight away and then cancel inside those 14 days, we may charge for the part of the month you used. contact support@trydecode.app and we will handle it — refunds for app store purchases may have to go through the store.

your documents stay yours

you keep every right in the documents you upload. you give us permission to process them only to provide the service to you — to extract the figures, produce your result and keep it in your vault. we do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and your documents are not used to train AI models. what we collect and how long we keep it is set out in the privacy notice.

using the service properly

upload documents you have the right to upload. do not try to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, do not use it to process someone else's documents without their permission, and do not use it for anything unlawful.

availability and changes

we aim to keep Decode available but cannot promise it will never be interrupted — maintenance, an outage at a supplier, or a fault can take it down. we may change or withdraw features; if a change materially reduces what you pay for, you can cancel and we will refund the unused part of that month.

if something goes wrong

we provide the service with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires. we do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for a failure to provide the service with reasonable care and skill, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. subject to that, we are not liable for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using Decode, and for anything that can lawfully be capped our total liability to you in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 or the amount you paid us in that period.

nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

complaints

write to support@trydecode.app. we reply within one working day and aim to resolve a complaint within eight weeks. because Decode does not give advice and is not a regulated credit firm, complaints about a credit agreement itself go to the provider and, if unresolved, to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

changes to these terms

if we change these terms we will tell you in the app before the change applies. carrying on using Decode after that means you accept the new version. the date at the top always shows the version in force.

law

these terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you keep the protections of your local law and can bring proceedings there.

the terms of your credit or BNPL agreement are between you and that provider. Decode explains them; it does not change them, and it cannot pause, cancel or renegotiate a plan on your behalf.
